Alliance of Independent Broker-Dealers

AIBD

Successful Investments Through Cooperative Research

Background

Organized under the laws of the State of California in 1980, the Alliance of Independent Broker-Dealers is a non-profit mutual benefit corporation. Commonly known as the Independent Broker-Dealer Association (IBDA), the organization changed its name to the Alliance of Independent Broker-Dealers in 1999.

Member firms are independent broker-dealers who are also members of the National Association of Securities Dealers. Each year the member firms raise over $700 Million of new investor capital through more than 380 registered representatives in California and Washington. The AIBD employs an Executive Director/Analyst, Research Associate, and Executive Administrator. In addition, it also retains its own independent securities counsel.

Members firms are selected and invited to join based upon their reputation, expertise, and experience. The expenses of the AIBD are met through a combination of member dues and new or existing sponsor fees.

The Purpose of the AIBD

The primary purpose of the AIBD is to provide a cooperative mechanism for review and research of investment offerings ordinarily presented to each member firm on an individual basis. Our members and product sponsors find that the sharing of due diligence is both cost effective and timesaving.

It is not the AIBD's function to approve or disapprove of any product, but to provide a forum and a means for its members to coordinate and share due diligence. Each member firm is solely responsible for making the decision regarding which securities it will offer and sell.

Additionally, the AIBD provides a means by which member firms can work with regulatory agencies and sponsors of products to improve standards of disclosure, reporting, and the regulation of security offerings.
